The Silver Gelatin Farm is a glimpse of what my father and mother have been working on for a number of years now.  After they work their day jobs, they devote themselves to a humble lifestyle of farm and cooking.  With permissions from his company’s property manager he has cultivated many different types of vegetation for sustenance and pleasure while my mother, like the soil, provides the family and farmer with what it needs to survive.  I find it important that I study what they have unknowingly dedicated their lives to.

Using a 4x5 large format camera challenged me to slow my roll and pay attention to details.  I did not want to shoot whatever looked pretty, rather I spent heavy days at the farm asking my father questions about what, why and how he does what he does.  I chose to print these through the classic silver gelatin process in sizes ranging from 8x10” to 16x20” for the sake of my parents’ work.  I want to reflect their dedication in my art.
